In 1996, Unilever, the owners of Scottish Blend, introduced the pyramid shape tea bags. Although Unilever called it tetrahedral (which means pyramid).

During the early years of the 2000s, approximately 2002 to 2005, Unilever update the pyramid tea bags to a porous “Freeflow” material, which was newly engineered to make tea brew faster and release more flavor. This commercial was specifically made to publicize these “Freeflow” tea bags.

Fiona’s Cafe was a beloved and long-running series of commercials. It was a fictional Scottish diner run by Fiona, played by well-known Scottish actress Aline Mowat. Fiona’s Cafe served as a recurrng location for Scottish Blend commercials.

The Fiona’s Cafe series was far different from the early 1990s whistling kettle ads.

During this time, the Brooke Bond brand was eliminated so Scottish Blend could be tied closer to the tea innovations from PG Tips.
